Actor Swara Bhasker clashed with television anchor Rubika Liyaquat over the National Register of Citizens at the Hindustan Shikhar Samagam event in Lucknow on Saturday. Actor Zeeshan Ayyub and director Tigmanshu Dhulia were also part of the panel.

Liyaquat insisted that Bhasker’s opposition to the NRC was unjustified because it had not been announced. She also blamed Bhasker for inciting crowds to shout that they would not show their documents (for the purpose of NRC) despite casting her vote after showing her voter ID card, to which the actor replied that casting one’s vote does not require the documents of ancestors.
