As soon as the reports of the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange surfaced on April 11, protests broke out in different parts of the world. Assange had been living in the Ecuador Embassy in London since June 2012, where he had sought asylum to avoid being extradited to Sweden in connection with sexual assault allegations.

In a statement on twitter, Ecuador President Lenín Moreno said that Assange’s asylum was withdrawn because of “repeated violations to international conventions and daily-life protocols”.
