The rise of “instapoets” – a new generation of young poets who publish their work primarily on social media – has brought one of its pioneers, Rupi Kaur, mainstream popularity.
Her first collection of poems, milk and honey, published in 2014, was on the New York Times bestseller list for 52 consecutive weeks and was picked by Emma Watson’s book club, Our Shared Shelf, as its summer read in August. The actor had a long chat with the Canada-based Kaur on their shared passion for literature and feminism (video above).
Kaur said that social fame has a downside. “Social media can be a difficult place to maintain a healthy sense of self and self-esteem I’m curious how you navigate those choppy waters and keep finding this well of self-love as a woman in a world that does not support that?” she said.
