Can Ant-Man’s ability to change sizes be explained by science? What about the bio-electric energy blasts from the Wasp’s stinger?
Scientists at the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) work with technology that is also applicable to the powers of some of our favourite superheroes. When John Urschel, the host of the web show “Marvel University”, visited the facility (video above), he learned how nanotechnology and biomimicry actually explain the “science fiction” recently seen in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Urschel met a trio of scientists who used scientific principles to explain seemingly made up concepts like the Wasp’s water-repelling suit (it’s a concept called superhydrophobicity) and how Ant-Man can be seen at microscopic levels. “Science fiction is a fantastic inspiration because stuff tends to come down the road,” Adam Stieg, Associate Director at CNSI said.
Previous videos in the series explored the science behind how ants and wasps behave in order to understand the superheroes better.
