Rapper Donald Glover’s (aka Childish Gambino) music video This is America had everyone dissecting the juxtapositions that revealed the polarised and nightmarish realities of the American society. It went on to inspire versions for and from Nigeria, Iraq and Malaysia.

Now, India has its own version, and none too soon. The Comedy Factory’s This is Hindustan (video above) was released a day before India celebrated its 72nd Independence Day on August 15, 2018, with customised lyrics sung to the original rap tune.

Directed by Aariz Syed, with the lyrics written by Syed and Manan Desai, the video mocks the absurdity of putting a cow’s life above a human’s and the alarmingly polarising rhetoric of news channels. Watch till the end.
