Despite emerging competitors, few things make Indians more patriotic than cricket. The feverish mash-up between love for the game and love for the country is now fodder for stand-up comedian Abhineet Mishra.
Starting with JNU, Mishra segues smoothly into aggressive nationalism in the stands at a cricket match between India and England in Mumbai. (In the current series underway in England, it is India’s performance that’s become the joke.)
Mishra, of course, is not joking about cricket here so much as he is holding a mirror to the aggressive display of nationalistic fervour in India. A timely reminder after the celebration of Independence Day.
