Every automaker seems to be chasing two things: self-driven vehicles and flying cars. The latest entrant into the second segment is British luxury automaker Aston Martin, which recently unveiled its concept of a flying car, called the “Volante Vision Concept”.
The flying vehicle, which you can see “imagined” in the video above, is capable of vertical take-off and landing like a helicopter, and is designed as an autonomous hybrid-electric vehicle capable of carrying three passengers for urban and inter-city air travel.
James Bond, who loves his Aston Martins, should be happy.
A brainchild of the company working in collaboration with Cranfield University, Cranfield Aerospace Solutions and Rolls-Royce (the aircraft-engine makers), the Volante Vision Concept won’t be your ordinary flying car (in a day and age where flying cars will be ordinary, that is). The company aims to bring luxury personal transportation to the sky, which explains the steep price tag – USA Today claims it will cost about $9.3-million at current exchange rates.
The only other catch: the car may not be ready till the mid-2020s.
