Skywatchers in many parts of the world were treated what was possibly a once-in-a lifetime opportunity – the longest “blood moon” eclipse of the 21st century.
At least part of the eclipse was visible for people in Europe, West Asia, Africa, and Australia, while most of Asia and South America was able to watch the moon turn into a giant red ball. As the skies darkened on Friday, social media lit up with videos and pictures of the celestial event in which the moon was completely obscured for one hour and 43 minutes.
Several users compressed the long-drawn show and posted time lapse videos.
