Former Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho was the cynosure of all eyes on the first day of the Premier Futsal tournament, but it was another legend who stole the show in Chennai on Friday.
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs was in fine fettle as he shepherded the Mumbai 5s to a comprehensive 4-2 opening win over the Chennai 5s. Giggs looked at home on his debut on India's futsal pitch, making some neat, incisive passes from the left. Chennai's Falcao, one of the best futsal players right now, also pulled off a trick or two but could not stop Chennai from losing.
The other match of the evening pitted Ronaldinho's Goa 5s against former Argentinean Hernan Crespo's Kolkata 5s, but it was a match which Argentina won hands down. Ronaldinho cut a subdued role as Crespo was in fine form, taking Kolkata to a 4-2 win.
But amidst all this, Ronaldinho still had time to show off his class, effecting one particularly pleasing sequence of hips twisting over a stilled ball, followed by a nutmeg.
