Poet, author, scriptwriter and filmmaker, Gulzar, aka Sampooran Singh Kalra, is known and loved for his films and lyrics. A Punjabi by birth, Gulzar has a deep and abiding love for the Bengali language, the source of many of the stories that he has filmed.
This love extends to Bengali poetry in general and Rabindranath Tagore in particular. Gulzar has just published a collection of his translations of 60-and-odd poems of Tagore's into Hindustani, in two volumes titled Nindya Chor and Baghbaan.
In this interesting and enlightening interview with The Indian Express, he says that he read Tagore "up to this point when it was boiling inside."
In the video above, Gulzar recites his translations of Tagore.
