Roger Federer hasn't played a tour-level match since losing at the Rome Open in May. He even lost his record of 65 consecutive Grand Slam appearances after he withdrew from the French Open. But nothing will keep the 35-year-old from playing in the 2016 Wimbledon Championships.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion is gearing up for yet another campaign at the All England Club by warming up the Stuttgart Open in Germany. The World No. 3 was up 4-3 in his second-round encounter against Taylor Fritz until rain interrupted play on Wednesday.
Before that, he decided to take on good friend and former World No. 2 Tommy Haas in an exhibition match on top of the 60-metre Cloud No. 7 building, the tallest in Stuttgart.
Thirty-eight-year-old Haas, who had a resurgent 2013, has been plagued with injuries over the last few years. He is gearing up for one final comeback before he retires. "Hopefully I can play a few more events and say goodbye to my career in my own terms. That's my goal but it's still a big question mark,” he told the ATP.
The Swiss seems to have an unusual penchant for playing on roofs (of course, the huge appearance bonus must help too). In 2005 he played Andre Agassi on what is purportedly the "world's highest tennis court" on top of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.
Federer even took Novak Djokovic to the tennis court but the duo did not play. Perhaps the Serb doesn't have a head for heights, even though he's perched on top of the rankings.
