Unless you have been hiding underground for the past few days, you know that a Snapchat story is in the news at this moment. For readers who don't know what that is, here's a news anchor explaining it.
The video was made by one Tanmay Bhat, member of comedy group All India Bakchod. It has spawned multiple think pieces and led to debates on several prominent panel discussions on television.
On one such discussion on TV9, comedian Sunil Pal, who is best known for winning the 2005 edition of the Great Indian Laughter Challenge, attempted to explain the Indian Standup Comedy scene that Bhat is part of.
Pal said on the show, "If you ever watch one of those shows to see what they are like, firstly, you won't be able to understand a single joke. These guys only stand up on stage and say vulgar things to the audience. All below the belt talk. Sometimes they'll make fun of a girl and she'll be okay with it. Sometimes they'll make fun of a guy and he'll be okay with it too. Half the crowd is full of gays and lesbians. They obviously like it because anyway they are out to destroy society."
