As the world of football awaits an all-Spanish affair in this season's Champions League final on Saturday evening between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, here's a flashback to exactly 13 years ago. Then, too, two teams from the same country had met in European football's summit clash.

On May 28, 2003, AC Milan took on Juventus in the first all-Italian Champions League final at Old Trafford in Manchester. It was only the second time that the finalists were from the same country , after Real Madrid beat Valencia 3-0 in the 1999-2000 season.

The Italian Serie A had ended just four days before the game, with Juve clinching the title and AC Milan finishing third. This was Milan's chance for revenge. Andriy Shevchenko almost had them ahead not eight minutes into the game as his deflected shot went past Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon. However, the referee ruled that Buffon's view had been blocked by Milan's Rui Costa, who was standing in an offside position.

The game produced some wonderful football, with both goalkeepers producing brilliant saves to deny the opponents. The two teams could not be separated for 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time, with the score remaining 0-0. However, by no means was it a dour affair. Juventus were at an advantage as the penalty shootout began in front of their supporters. The video above shows what happened in the shootout.
