On Friday night students of Jawaharlal Nehru University called off their hunger strike after the Delhi High Court stayed the disciplinary action against some of them, which was ordered by an enquiry committee report. The court in its verdict told the students this verdict was conditional, and would apply only if they ended their agitation.
They have also been barred from starting further protests until the legal issue its resolved.
The 16-day-long hunger strike ended with enthusiastic chants of "lal salaam", as seen in the video above.
On Wednesday the University administration too had requested the students to call off the hunger strike and wait for the court's verdict on the events of February 9.
Some of the participants, including JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, had had to withdraw from the fast earlier because of deteriorating health.
