It's the big semi-final in Mumbai on Thursday. India v West Indies. And while Virat Kohli has been taking India home largely through his brilliance, the West Indian side has #WorldBoss Chris Gayle as its biggest weapon.
The two teams have meet four times in Twenty20 Internationals and thrice in the World Twenty20 competition. West Indies have won twice, and one of these victories came at the 2010 World Twenty20 in Barbados, thanks to a trademark Chris Gayle special.
West Indies batted first and Gayle hammered seven sixes and five fours in a swashbuckling 98 off just 66 balls. With the exception of Harbhajan Singh, no Indian bowler was spared, with Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja coming in for special treatment, being hammered for 23 runs and 27 runs in their two overs respectively. Gayle was the last batsman out as West Indies reached 169/6.
Then, on a fast pitch, an old Indian batting vulnerability rose to the surface. Batsman after Indian batsman were dismissed trying to fend off the short ball as India succumbed by 15 runs. Six years later, as the teams prepare for an all-important semi-final, India's bowlers will be wary of repeating the mistakes of that match.
