Some of the best players in the world were in action on Tuesday, but for their countries, not their clubs. While European nations played out friendlies against each other, the South American and Asian nations were playing the qualifying rounds for the 2018 World Cup.
By far some of the best goals were seen in the France-Russia fixture in France. The game finished 4-2 in France's favour, and some of the action on display was breath-taking. Check the highlights in the video above and watch out for the brilliant free-kick from Dimitri Payet for France in the 62nd minute (around the 2.05 minute mark).
Over in Munich, Germany bounced back from a 3-2 defeat against England by comprehensively sweeping past Italy 4-1. Jonas Hector's brilliant goal in the 59th exemplified Germany's domination.
On the other hand, England were rudely brought down to Earth at home at the Wembley Stadium, being outclassed by the Netherlands 2-1.
Over in Paraguay, Brazil looked like they were staring at another humiliating defeat, down 2-0 with only ten minutes on the clock. However an 80th minute strike from Ricardo Oliveira and a last-gasp goal from Dani Alves ensured Brazil went home with a draw.
The biggest upset of the night, however, came in Asia. At Manila, the 135th ranked Philippines team shocked the 94th ranked North Korea 3-2 in their final World Cup qualifier match.
