Vijay Mallya was once asked how he felt about being India's Donald Trump. That was back in circa 1998 (video above). This is what he had to say:
"Well, I don't know Mr Trump personally, I've read a lot about him. He obviously likes to live his life, as I indeed do... but not yet anywhere near bankruptcy."
He couldn't have known, of course, how both he and Trump would be in the news in 2016, albeit for different reasons.
Asked about his love for women, a la Trump, Mallya says, 'There's nothing wrong in appreciating beauty, is there?'
In the show 'Bombay Chat', hosted by British-Indian Nikki Bedi, a much younger Mallya also talks about his enemies – and of those whose guts he hates, as his enemies hate his.
Here we also find out Mallya was once a rally driver with many wins under his belt. To the question, "Is that because you could afford the best cars, or because you are a brilliant rally driver?" He says, "Combination of both I guess."
