"At the gate first media people surrounded us, the police shielded me from them and brought me inside the court where a mob dressed like lawyers attacked me."
"How soon upon entering was this?"
"As soon as we entered. It seemed they were sitting in preparation for our arrival because those who were beating me were calling out to other people telling them 'he's come'. I fell on the vehicles that were parked there. Then at the machine at the entry of the court when they were pushing me inside, my pants came loose, my shirt and slippers came loose. They were beating me with kicks and punches. If one stopped another took his place."
This is the violence that Jawaharlal Nehru University students union president Kanhaiya Kumar faced on February 15 at the Patiala House Court. This was Kumar's first court hearing after his arrest on February 12, on charges of sedition.
In the video above, released by CNN-IB,N Kumar describes his ordeal to a panel of judges appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the incident. He tells the panel that even though he identified the man who led the attack against him, he got away scot free.
Kumar says the policemen who were with him were also beaten.
The video below is of the panel questioning the police on the incident. All three policemen questioned here say, "We don't know".
