It is rare to see political leaders publicly display affection for their spouses, but US President Barack Obama won the presidency on the back of hope and change. So it was that this February 14, when President Obama had to be in California instead of Washington DC, he delivered a televised message of his love for Michelle Obama, with a plug and/or joke for his healthcare programme.
Appearing on the Ellen Degeneres Show Obama said, "Michelle, this Valentine’s Day I’m going to treat you right. I’m going to make you some zucchini bread and then spread out some veggies on a plate, just the way you like it." Then adding, "I Obamacare about you more than you even know."
The US first lady on her part delivered a version of the "roses and red, violets are blue rhyme."
This is the last Valentine's Day the couple celebrated as President and First Lady of the US. Next year onwards, they should find it easier to be together on the date.
