Picture abhi baki hai.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted French President Hollande in Chandigarh's Rock Garden on Saturday, a picture of Modi being more "hands on" than needed with Hollande instantly invited derision on Twitter. From Titanic poses to Hindi song mixes, the image generated an overdrive of hilarity.

But despite Modi's known penchant for entering into awkward clinches with male heads of state around the world (with Germany's Angela Merkel, even the attempted handshake didn't go too well), in this case the freeze frame is perhaps a little unfair to the prime minister's objectives.

For, as the video above (from the 13-second mark) reveals, the embrace actually took place earlier – no la bise – after which Modi proceeded to manoeuvre Hollander from his left to his right. Quite innocuous, if typical, keeping in mind appropriate camera angles.

But a photograph during that short unchoreographed move made it look... well, you know what it made it look like. The rest is meme history.
