We are now familiar enough with Bonsai plants and Zen gardens to not bat an eyelid at the sight of miniature plants. Now there's an all new addition that will force you to do a double-take: Bonsai plants that float in mid-air.
A company called Hoshinchu, based in Japan, has built a new product called Air Bonsai. The system combines magnetic levitation with the traditional Japanese gardening to create entirely new (expensive) ways of adding to your home garden.
The kickstarter page for Air Bonsai offers basic sets starting at $200, and has already collected nearly $300,000 after an original goal of reaching $80,000. The various options on offer even come with a Do-It-Yourself kit that allows you to turn practically any plant into a floating one, Avatar style, with just a plugged-in magnetic base and a special magnetic pot holding it.
The maglev technology has become popular of late in home appliances, with speakers like the Om/one attempting to use the same levitating effect as a selling point.
