It’s Shahid Afridi again. But this time around, he was not alone – his Pakistani cricket teammate, the flamboyant Ahmed Shehzad, was also with the captain during his latest controversy.
It started off innocuously enough. The Pakistani team, who are currently touring New Zealand, arrived at Auckland airport. Famished after a long flight, Afridi and Shezhad decided to walk over to McDonalds for a burger or two.
Then "Boom Boom" realised he had a problem: having just landed in New Zealand, he had no local currency on him. Awkward.
Thankfully, the story had a happy ending. Waqas, a Pakistani living in New Zealand, stepped in and paid. He later said that he footed the bill as he was a fan of the Pakistani cricket team, and this was his way of welcoming the players.
Predictably, thanks to the larger-than-life persona that Afridi enjoys for his controversies, the video was replayed endlessly around all cricket channels. Afridi, though, saw the lighter side of it.
