Looks like Shahid “Boom Boom” Afridi can’t go a day without courting some controversy or the other. And days after vociferously backing tainted Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir, the temperamental Pakistani all-rounder got into another controversy after he lashed out at a reporter and walked out at a Press conference (video above).
Afridi was addressing the media in Lahore when a reporter asked him about his captaincy plans for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20, pointing out that his leadership record was poor. Afridi did not take too kindly to that, he shot back with “Mujhe aapse umeed thi ki aap ghatiya sawaal-i karenge”. (I expected you to ask such a pathetic question.)
He then left the Press briefing mid-way. The assembled journalists were not impressed and protested outside the dressing room, demanding an apology from Afridi before they were pacified by the Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam.
The Pakistan T20 team under Afridi has had an iffy 2015, evident in losses to Bangladesh and England – a factor which might have been playing on Afridi’s mind. However, maybe someone could tell Afridi that throwing a hissy fit at a journalist who’s just asking a pointed question might not be the solution.
