"Friends are we, on the ocean blue. Faith in the sea, our sacred glue. Hearts of oak, in the sprightly weather. On the ocean blue, let's sail together"
Amateur emotions in full flow? Think again. This is the theme song for a serious show of military might.
Those cheesy lyrics are a musical prelude to the International Fleet Review, aka a glittering display of power by the world's navies, scheduled to be held in Vishakhapatnam from February 4 to 8, 2016. And no, the "Hello Namaste" in there is probably not intended to echo the song with the same name that greeted Narendra Modi in the UK.
Wondering just who came up with the song? The official website offers no details on who made this video or who sang the song, stating simply that it has been made by the International Fleet Review's Delhi team.
And what of the event that the Hinglish song introduces? Explained Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan, "During the International Fleet Review, the navies of the world will come together at Visakhapatnam to strengthen bridges of friendship. We may be separated by geography, but we are certainly united through oceans. The visiting navies will also have the opportunity to display their professional skills as they sail together for exercises to increase mutual cooperation and interoperability, with the underlying theme of keeping the global commons safe and secure in the 21st century."
