Perhaps the most mesmerising sight in cricket is a spinner tricking a batsman into parting with his ticket. The helpless victim often flounders almost in slow motion.

The video above shows how Ravichandran Ashwin has just done that, not once, but five times.

South Africa dug themselves into a massive hole in their first innings in the third Test at Nagpur, being bowled out for 79 in response to India’s modest 215., India’s spinners ran riot yet again, with Ashwin picking up a five-wicket haul and Ravindra Jadeja bagging four.

Ashwin who has been in incredible form, started the carnage late on Wednesday afternoon, pitching it on a perfect length to get Stiaan van Zhyl’s edge. He continued in the same vein in the very first over of the second day, getting Dean Elgar to inside edge one on to his stumps. Then came the big one in his next over.

South African captain Hashim Amla thought he had a loosener when Ashwin pitched it marginally on a good length. Unfortunately for him, the ball turned sharply to hit the back of the bat and loop up for a simple catch to Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.

Jadeja took over for a while, but Ashwin was not finished yet. He came back to mop up the tail, bowling Simon Harmer between his legs and finally catching Morne Morkel off his own bowling to walk off with yet another five wicket haul.
