"Mile Hindustani-English log Celebration Hinglish ho Chalo namaste, shake hand ho..." "Thames ka sangam Ganga ke sang Jashn manaye milke hum."
Right now, the song to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his upcoming visit to the US may well be music to his ears after the drubbing his party received in the Bihar elections.
As always, the managers of the diaspora's welcome to Modi during his globetrotting have pulled out all stops. The song in the video above was unveiled in London last Saturday at an event named "Hi-Chai". Evidently celebrating the (re)union of India with the UK, it is a primer on the sort of hysteria Modi can generate from people of Indian origin on his foreign visits.
Performing this ditty from the diaspora at Modi's Wembley stadium reception is bound to eclipse the fame attained earlier by the singer Kanika Kapoor for crooning the Baby Doll Main Sone Di song from the Sunny Leone starrer Ragini MMS 2.
There's been some thought behind the composition. Keerti Mathur, the song's music producer, told The Times of India, "Easy to sing along, this retro feel song with a nostalgic Ye Dosti (Sholay) start and an upbeat Bhangra end ... is a perfect way to mark this iconic moment which will go down in history."
Modi's three-day tour of the UK begins on November 12 and the Indian diaspora appears to be largely happy about a chance to see the Prime Minister. The event at Wembley Stadium on November 13 is being billed by the organisers as the biggest reception for any foreign head of government in the UK, and also the largest for an Indian prime minister outside India.
Wembley Stadium, one of Europe's largest football fields is expecting to host over 70,000 people. Coming close at the heels of Diwali, the event, on the lines of the Madison Square Garden reception will have many Bollywood like song and dance performances. Here's what is likely to unfold. (Provided the Prime Minister doesn't speak too long.)
The event's Twitter handle @ukwelcomesmodi will be used for all announcements and information relating to the event and its build-up.
