Pepsi's new ad with the tagline "Pepsi thi, Pi gaya" based on a group of protesting students received flak by media houses and on social media for mocking aforesaid protests. The setting for the ad many believe came from the 139-day-long strike by the Film and Television Institute of India's protesting student body. Now a production house called Aarambh Mumbai Productions has made an ad in response to Pepsi, calling the drink "Poopsi." It mocks the blatant disregard exhibited by the Pepsi ad makers, saying among other things "Ad tha, Bana diya."
The Pepsi advertisement shows students on hunger strike, expressing their refusal to back down until their demands are met. When one of the student's spots a Pepsi bottle he ends up drinking it in front of the news channel crew, making the determination of the students appear flimsy. Attempting to make the cola look irresistible, the ad makers instead made student protests appear laughable.
The response shows an arrogant man doing obnoxious things and excusing himself with a nonchalant shrug and statements like "MMS tha, share kar diya."
While some people have speculated that this spoof has been made by FTII students. Yashasvi Mishra, a spokesperson for the students, denied FTII's involvement saying that FTII students don't have time for such insignificant things. And that when the students were accused of being naxalites among other things by political leaders, Pepsi's insensitivity is not of much concern to them.
Students from the FTII had been on a strike since June this year questioning the appointment of the board members specifically the appointed chairman, Bharatiya Janta Party member Gajendra Chauhan.
