Assamese director Rima Das’s 2017 production Village Rockstars will be released on September 28. Kamakhya Films will handle the release in Assam, while the movie-on-demand platform VKAAO, a joint venture of PVR Pictures and Bookmyshow, will distribute the film in metropolises, according to a press release.
Village Rockstars traces the story of Dhunu, a girl from a village in Assam who dreams of owning a guitar and forming a rock band. Rima Das’s niece Bhanita, plays Dhunu.
The film has also been shot, edited and produced by Rima Das. “After travelling to many film festivals across the world and winning hearts, I am so delighted that the exciting journey of Village Rockstars has come to its final stage when we prepare with nervous anticipation and hope to present the film to the audiences in OUR homeland,” Das said in the press release.
Das made her debut with Man with Binoculars in 2016. Her most recent film, Bulbul Can Sing, was premiered at the recently concluded Toronto International Film Festival.
