Prosenjit Chatterjee steps into Uttam Kumar’s shoes and Kumar Sanu into Kishore Kumar’s in Ki Ashay Bandhi Khelaghar, the first song from Kaushik Ganguly’s Kishore Kumar Junior.
Ki Ashay Bandhi Khelaghar is an original composition by the late Bengali music director Shayamal Mitra. Kishore Kumar sung the song, written by Gouriprasanna Mazumdar, for Shakti Samanta’s Amanush (1975). In the film, the song is lip-synced by Uttam Kumar.
In Kishore Kumar Junior, the recreated version by Indraadip Dasgupta is lip-synced by Chatterjee as his character regales his neighbours and passers-by. Within minutes, a crowd has formed around Chatterjee.
The film is set to be released on October 12.
Chatterjee plays a singer who belts out Kishore Kumar hits at stage shows and cultural programmes. Chatterjee’s character and the film is loosely based on Gautam Ghosh, who enjoyed popularity as a “Kishore konthi” – a singer rendering Kishore Kumar hits in the master’s voice.
Other Kishore Kumar songs recreated for the film are Yeh Shaam Mastani from Kati Patang (1971), Tum Bin Jaun Kahaan from Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), and the non-film song, Ek Din Pakhi Ure Jabe (1969).
