The Italian crime drama series Gomorrah will get a prequel movie based on one of its prominent characters, Ciro Di Marzio, Variety reported. The working title is The Immortal, which is the name given to Ciro’s character in the series.
The film will be directed by actor Marco D’Amore, who plays Ciro in the series. Leonardo Fasoli, a screenwriter working on the Gomorrah television series, is writing the screenplay along with D’Amore. Shooting is likely to commence in February, Variety reported.
D’Amore has directed two episodes in the upcoming fourth season of Gomorrah, which will be aired in 2019. The television series followed the 2008 film, based on Italian journalist Roberto Saviano’s book of the same name. The book and the 2008 film delve into the operations of the Neapolitan criminal organisation Camorra.
The Immortal will roll out Ciro’s back story. After surviving the 1980 Naples earthquake that kills his family, Ciro grows up in an orphanage before setting out to work for Don Pietro Savastano (Fortunato Cerlino, in the series) of the Camorra clan.
