Rajinikanth’s film with Karthik Subbaraj is titled Petta, producers Sun Pictures revealed through a motion poster on Friday. The one-minute animated clip shows Rajinikanth walking into what appears to be a church, causing mayhem. Papers, pencils, and compasses fly as a buoyant score runs in the background.
Petta also stars Vijay Sethupathi, who has appeared in three of Subbaraj’s four films. Subbaraj regular Bobby Simha is also part of the cast. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will make his Tamil debut in the film, which also features Simran and Trisha Krishnan. Anirudh Ravichander is the composer.
Petta is Rajinikanth’s 165th film and Subbaraj’s fifth film as a director. Subbaraj’s last film was the horror-thriller Mercury (2018).
Before Petta, Rajinikanth will be seen in Shankar’s, 2.0, the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster, Enthiran, which opens on November 29.
Rajinikanth was last seen in Pa Ranjith’s action drama Kaala, which opened to mixed reviews. Subbaraj told The News Minute in May that unlike Rajinikanth’s politically charged recent films, his movie would be “light-hearted”.
