Veteran Marathi actor Vijay Chavan died in Mumbai on Friday aged 63 after a long battle with a lung disease. According to the Press Trust of India, he died early morning at a Mulund hospital where he had been admitted five days ago.
The prolific performer had appeared in more than 350 films in Hindi and Marathi. He was best known for his comic roles in such films as Zapatlela (1993), Pachadlela (2004), Jatra (2006), Mumbaicha Dabewala (2007), and Shrimanta Damodar Pant (2013). Chavan
One of his most memorable performances was in Pralhad Keshav Atre’s Marathi stage drama Moruchi Maushi, in which he played the titular aunt.
Chavan was honoured with the Chitrapati V Shantaram Jivangaurav Puraskar by the Maharashtra government in April.
