“Music should not be limited to one community or one country. I think it should be accessible to everyone,” says AR Rahman in the trailer of Harmony with AR Rahman, an upcoming Amazon Prime series. Hosted by the Oscar-winning music composer, the series will highlight lesser-known music traditions from across the country and will trace their roots.

The artists featured in the series include rudraveena player Baha’un-din Dagar, Manipuri singer Lourembam Bedabati Devi, Sikkimese singer Mickma Tshering Lepcha and Kerala’s Sajith Vijayan, who plays the mizhavu, a copper drum that accompanies the performing art forms of Koodiyattam and Koothu.

“I have heard the rudraveena and mizhavu earlier, but the two folk forms from the Northeast were new to me,” Rahman said about the series in an interview to The Hindu. “I realised how ignorant we are about that part of our country,”

The final episode will feature a grand collaboration between all the artists who have appeared on the show. Harmony with AR Rahman will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from August 15.
