The sixth and final season of the acclaimed Netflix series House of Cards will be premiered on November 2, the streaming platform announced today.

Robin Wright will return as American President Claire Underwood in the final season, which will comprise eight episodes. The additions to the cast includes Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear. Returning cast members include Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil and Campbell Scott. Wright is also among the producers.

Created by Beau Willimon, the series follows the ruthless ambition of Democrat Congressman Frank Underwood, played to great acclaim by Kevin Spacey. Together with his wife, Claire, Frank Underwood schemes his way into the White House, succeeding in becoming the President of the United States of America at the end of season two. At the conclusion of the fifth season in 2017, Claire Underwood succeeds her husband after his resignation following a series of misdemeanours.

Spacey was sacked from the series following a string of sexual assault allegations in October 2017. Production on the sixth season was briefly suspended following the allegations, and Netflix later announced that the final eight episodes would be aired without Spacey.
