Mahesh Manjrekar’s 2016 Marathi film Natsamrat, based on Kusumgraj’s play of the same name, has been remade in Gujarati with the same title. Natsamrat is about a renowned theatre actor (Nana Patekar) who struggles to come to terms with his retirement. Siddharth Randeria plays the role in Jayant Gilatar’s Gujarati remake. The original stage production starred Shriram Lagoo.
The recently released teaser shows Randeria’s character walking into a decrepit auditorium that once hosted his plays and the audiences that applauded his talent. “I am the sole ruler of the stage,” he tells an empty auditorium. “I’m wealthier than lord Kuber, thanks to the love showered on me by my viewers.”
The film also stars Dipika Chikhlia Topiwala, Manoj Joshi, Samvedna Suwalka and Tassnim Nerurkar. Natsamrat will be released on August 30.
