Video-on-demand platform Zee5 on Friday launched Marathi web series Liftman, starring Marathi actor and comedian Bhalchandra “Bhau” Kadam (Half Ticket, Timepass, Chala Hawa Yeu Dya).

The series follow the lives of an apartment complex’s madcap residents through their interactions with an eccentric elevator operator. Much of the 10-episode series takes place inside an elevator, a press note said.

“This series marks my web debut in a titular role, and I couldn’t have chosen a better concept for the same,” Kadam said in the press note. “With smartphones becoming such a common feature, entertainment options with the audience is gradually changing. Today, literally everything is at one’s fingertips – and in such cases how can one be left behind?”

The concept of humour within the confines of an elevator was previously explored by the music channel MTV, through the character of a grumpy old lift operator who would rail at the channel’s offerings. The segment was featured between shows. The character was played by Chandrachoor Karnik.
