Kartik Aaryan has been confirmed as the lead of the Hindi remake of Kannada campus romance Kirik Party (2016). The role had reportedly been previously offered to Sidharth Malhotra. The director is Abhishek Jain, who has made the Gujarati movies Kevi Rite Jaish (2014) and Bey Yaar (2014).
Rishab Shetty’s Kannada blockbuster is about a group of engineering college students and starred Rakshit Shetty and Rashmika Mandanna. It is one of the highest grossing Kannada films, reportedly earning Rs 50 crores against a budget of four crores. A Telugu remake, Kirrak Party, was released ealier this year.
Production on the Hindi adaptation will begin in October.
“We are excited to have Kartik Aaryan on board, as he has a connect with today’s youth,” Producer Ajay Kapoor told The Times of India. “We felt only he could bring this well-etched character alive on the big screen.” Aaryan’s last film was Luv Ranjan’s blockbuster Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018). Aaryan has also been signed for Laxman Utekar’s Luka Chuppi, which also stars Kriti Sanon.
