A Salman Khan production about people driving cars: the irony of it all is not lost on us.
In Dr Cabbie, Deepak Chopra, played by Vinay Virmani (of Speedy Singhs fame), earns his medical degree in India and gets a few steps closer to his dream of donning a white coat, just like his father. He decides to migrate to Canada to become a doctor there. After facing a culture shock and a slew of failed interviews, a broke Deepak drives a cab to make ends meet. He goes on to start an illegal mobile medical clinic in his vehicle to fulfill his dreams of healing the sick.
The movie, which is available on VOD, has been directed by Jean-Francois Pouliot, who has such films as Seducing Doctor Lewis and Snowtime! to his credit. Lillete Dubey plays Deepak’s mother, who has a much easier time accepting her new Canadian status unlike her son, and calls herself “Nellie from Delhi.”
The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar will be the reason people tune into the movie. He plays Deepak’s fellow driver Tony Singh, a womaniser and a party animal who loves his life as a cabbie. Tony takes on the role of a guide to help explain all things Canadian to Deepak. Isabel Kaif, Katrina Kaif’s sister, plays Tony’s love interest.
They are joined by Superwoman aka Lilly Singh, the Canadian vlogger and comedian, who has been named one of Forbes magazine’s 30 people under 30 to watch. See her give a behind-the-scenes tour of the movie and hang out with Nayyar and Kaif.
