French drug manufacturer Sanofi’s India unit withdrew four batches of its popular painkiller Combiflam, after they failed a test by the country’s drug regulator. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation said the pills from those batches were not of standard quality.
The medicine did not pass a disintegration test, which checks how quickly a tablet breaks down inside the body. According to NDTV, the batches concerned were manufactured in June 2015 and July 2015 with expiry dates of May 2018 and June 2018. A Sanofi spokesperson confirmed that while the pill failed the test, there was “no impact on its safety and efficacy”.
