A fire broke out at a market in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area on Saturday, PTI reported. The fire damaged five showrooms. No casualties were reported.

Thirty fire tenders and over 100 firefighters were rushed to the Central Market in Lajpat Nagar after officials received a call about the incident at 10.20 am.

The fire started at a clothing store, Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg told The Indian Express. “There was a lot of smoke because of the raw material inside the shop,” he said.

Garg added: “When fire tenders reached the spot, four showrooms were on fire and later [the blaze] spread to the fifth shop”. He said that the cause of the fire was still not known. The other shops that the fire spread to also dealt in garments.

Garg told PTI that with their quick response, the firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to the residential areas behind the shops.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) RP Meena said that BSES and Indraprastha Gas Limited were asked to cut electricity and gas supply in the area, The Indian Express reported.
