A fire broke out on Tuesday in a building near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, the All India Radio’s office in Jammu reported.
No one was injured in the incident, according to PTI. The fire broke out around 4.15 pm and was brought under control by 5 pm.
Officials told NDTV that some cash and documents were destroyed.
Videos shared by social media users showed thick black smoke coming out of a building in the temple complex.
The fire was caused due to a short circuit at the shrine’s cash counter, Aaj Tak reported, quoting unidentified officials of the local administration.
Shailender Singh, the senior superintendent of police for Reasi district, said the chief executive officer of the Vaishno Devi Shrine board was assessing damages.
“We will know what caused the fire after further investigation,” he added.
Fire fighting squad of the shrine immediately swung into action after the Central Reserve Police Force personnel raised an alarm, officials said.
