Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that there has been a rise in Covid-19 cases in the Capital and it can be called the third wave. Delhi reported more than 6,500 cases for the second day in a row on Wednesday. With 6,842 new cases, Delhi’s Covid-19 count rose to 4,09,938. This is the highest ever single-day rise for the national Capital.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday passed an order allowing the reopening of cinema halls, theatres and multiplexes with 50% capacity from November 5.

India’s coronavirus count rose to 83,13,876 with 46,253 new cases being recorded in 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed. The country’s toll increased by 514 to 1,23,611. The number of active cases stood at 5,33,787, while the recoveries reached 76,56,478.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 4.73 crore people and killed 12,12,844, according to the Johns Hopkins University. Over 3.15 crore people have recovered from the infection.

10.45 pm: Punjab reports 527 new cases and 14 deaths today, according to ANI. The state now has 1,35,313 total cases and the toll has risen to 4,259.

6.59 pm: Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen goes into isolation after Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup tested positive for the coronavirus, reports Bloomberg. Denmark’s finance minister and foreign minister will also self-isolate as they held meetings with Haekkerup.

6.53 pm: Andhra Pradesh reports 2,477 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally in the state to 8,33,208, according to ANI. The overall tally includes 21,438 active cases, 8,05,026 recoveries and 6,744 fatalities.

4.12 pm: A sero survey reveals that 16.4% of the 15,624 samples studied in Karnataka have developed antibodies against the coronavirus, reports The Hindu. Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar says the overall adjusted prevalence of the coronavirus in the state was 27.3% (combined IgG and active infection).

According to the US’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, serology tests are “those that look for antibodies in blood”. “If antibodies are found, that means there has been a previous infection,” it says. “However, there is a chance a positive result means that you have antibodies from an infection with a virus from the same family of viruses (called coronaviruses), such as the one that causes the common cold.”

8.54 am: The health ministry on Tuesday asked states to refrain from making isolated plans for vaccine distribution, The Hindu reports. The government said it issued specific directions to states to review their storage and transport facilities that are currently being used in the universal immunisation programme.

At a press briefing, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said states have been asked to work with the central government which has set up an expert committee on vaccine administration. “States/UTs have been also asked to set up committees under Chief Secretaries for administration to ensure time-bound implementation of the Central government direction,’’ he said.
