Union home secretary and health ministry officials held a review meeting on Monday on the coronavirus situation in the national capital with Delhi government officials. Discussions were held on ramping up testing in critical zones and medical facilities amid the festive season and the onset of winters.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who had tested positive for the coronavirus on October 26, was discharged from the hospital after recovering from the infection. Pawar will remain in isolation for the next few days.

India’s coronavirus count rose to 82,29,313 on Monday with 45,231 new cases being recorded in the last 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed. The country’s toll increased by 496 to 1,22,607. The number of active cases stood at 5,61,908, while the recoveries reached 75,44,798.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 4.64 crore people and killed 11,99,684, according to the Johns Hopkins University. Over 3.10 crore people have recovered from the infection.

10.45 pm: An Air India official tells ANI that 19 passengers on its Vande Bharat flight to Wuhan in China tested positive for the coronavirus on October 30. “The airline is aware of the incident,” the official adds. “All passengers boarded the flight after thorough checks of their Covid negative certificate.”

10.30 pm: Delhi reports 4,001 new coronavirus cases and 42 deaths today, reports PTI. Delhi had recorded over 5,000 daily cases for the last five days, ending Sunday when the count stood at 5,664. The highest single-day rise of 5,891 cases was recorded on Friday.

The Delhi government bulletin says that the total number of cases has climbed to 3,96,371 and the positivity rate stood at 10.91%. The toll stands at 6,604.

10.15 pm: Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij says the second sero survey shows that 14.8% of people in the state have developed antibodies, reports ANI.

7.32 pm: Tamil Nadu reports 2,481 new coronavirus cases, 31 deaths and 3,940 recoveries today, according to ANI. The state now has 7,29,507 total cases and the toll rises to 11,183.

7.27 pm: Mumbai’s Dharavi area records 11 new coronavirus cases, taking the total to 3,617. A senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official tells PTI that 3,152 patients in the densely populated locality have recovered from the infection and discharged from hospitals.

7.25 pm: Kerala reports 4,138 new coronavirus cases and 21 fatalities, reports PTI. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan says as many as 3.55 lakh people have recovered from the infection, while the caseload touched 4,31,329 with the addition of the new cases. Meanwhile, the toll rises to 1,533.

Home Ministry says that the strategy to contain spread of the virus amid the festive season with rise in pollution levels and decrease in temperatures was discussed.

4.29 pm: The health ministry says that active Covid-19 cases in India was only 6.83% of the total positive cases and the recovery rate stood at 91.68%, according to ANI. The ministry says there were 53,285 recoveries as against 45,321 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

4.26 pm: Uttar Pradesh reports 1,788 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally in the state to 4,85,609, reports PTI. The toll stands at 7,076 after 25 more people died in the state.

3.12 pm: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been admitted to a hospital a week after he was discharged following recovering from the coronavirus, reports PTI, citing a doctor treating him. The 86-year-old Congress has been put on ventilator support.

3.04 pm: Several school principals in Delhi and adjoining areas are not in favour of postponing the Central Board of Secondary Education exams for 2021 in view of the continued closure of schools because of the coronavirus pandemic, reports PTI.

  • India’s coronavirus count rose to 81,84,082 on Sunday with 46,963 new cases being recorded in the last 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed. The country’s toll increased by 470 to 1,22,111. The number of active cases stood at 5,70,458, while the recoveries reached 74,91,513.
  • The recovery rate stood at 91.54%, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.49%. The number of active coronavirus cases remained below 6 lakh for the third consecutive day.
  • On Saturday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a four-week lockdown across England as a second wave of infections threatened to overwhelm the hospitals. “Christmas is going to be different this year, perhaps very different, but it’s my sincere hope and belief that by taking tough action now we can allow families across the country to be together,” he said.
