The Ministry of Finance has refused to share details of Swiss bank accounts of Indians, saying such disclosures are prohibited under “confidentiality provisions” of a tax treaty signed between the two countries. Kashmiri man dies in Allahabad jail after being detained under Public Safety Act

A member of the banned Jamaat-i-Islami Jammu and Kashmir who had been detained under the Public Safety Act has died in a prison in Allahabad. Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, 65, was suffering from various ailments and died on Saturday evening, officials said. Bhat, a resident of Handwara in Kupwara district, had been detained under the Public Safety Act soon after the Centre revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status on August 5. His detention at Allahabad’s Naini Central Jail was scheduled to end on January 9.

Number of debit cards in India plunges 15% to two-year low, says report

The number of debit cards in India witnessed a two-year low in October, with only 843 million of them in circulation as opposed to the 998 million in the same period last year. This is a 15% decline in two years in the total number of cards in circulation. Delhi: 9 killed as fire breaks out at cloth godown in Kirari area

Nine people were killed after a fire erupted in a cloth godown in North Delhi’s Kirari area in the early hours of Monday, the Delhi Fire Service told PTI. The 10 injured have been admitted to a hospital.
