Two pilots died after a Mirage 2000 trainer fighter aircraft crashed near the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited airport in Bengaluru on Friday, ANI reported.
One of the pilots died from being injured while landing on the wreckage of the aircraft, said ANI.
The crash took place near Yamalur off old Airport Road in Bengaluru around 10.30 am, The Times of India reported.
The pilots have been identified as Squadron Leaders Sameer Abrol and Siddarth Negi. The aircraft was being tested after Hindustan Aeronautics Limited had given it an upgrade, NDTV reported.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, in a statement, said it has initiated an inquiry into the accident in coordination with the Indian Air Force.
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, a government enterprise, makes and upgrades aircraft for the Indian Air Force and operates the military airport in Bengaluru.
The incident comes days after an Indian Air Force plane crashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on Monday. The pilots had ejected safely. A court of inquiry was constituted to investigate the crash.
