Security forces on Thursday killed two suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district during an encounter, the state police said. A soldier was also injured in the gunfight. His condition is now stable, according to the Greater Kashmir.
The encounter broke out on Thursday morning in Zagoo Arizal area. The militants were trapped in a house in the area and were engaged in an exchange of fire with the security forces.
Police said incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the militants. One of them was identified as local resident Mukhtar A Khan.
Mobile internet service was suspended across Budgam, Kashmir Reader reported.
A police spokesperson identified the deceased as Budgam resident Mukhtar Ahmad Khan and Pampore resident Mohammad Amin Mir, Global News Service reported.
Meanwhile, protestors clashed with security forces soon after the encounter, Greater Kashmir reported. Eyewitnesses said security forces fired tear gas shells after the protestors started pelting them with stones.
