A soldier of the Army’s 18 Sikh Regiment shot dead two colleagues on Monday before killing himself in Dharamsala cantonment in Himachal Pradesh, reported the Hindustan Times. A police official in Kangra said the incident took place around 2.15 am.
Sepoy Jasbir Singh, who had joined the Army six months ago, fired at Havildar Hardeep Singh and Naik Harpal Singh before shooting himself. Hardeep Singh had completed 23 years in the Army while Harpal Singh had been in service for 18 years.
Jasbir Singh was on guard duty in the officers’ mess and got into an argument with the other two, said Colonel Navdeep Brar, the regiment’s commanding officer. While Jasbir Singh was from Barnala in Punjab, Hardeep Singh and Harpal Singh hailed from Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur, reported The Tribune.
A forensic team from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Dharamsala has collected evidence from the crime, said Additional Superintendent of Police Badri Singh.
Superintendent of Police Santosh Patial said an investigation into the murders was under way, reported The Times of India. The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
