Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attended an Ashara Mubaraka event held in Indore to commemorate the death anniversary of Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Hussain. He was felicitated by the spiritual head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, at Saifee Mosque in the city. The event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

“My relationship with the Bohra society is very old,” the prime minister said while addressing the community. “It is my pleasure that your affection has always been on me. There is hardly a village in Gujarat where you won’t find a Bohra trader.”

Modi also praised the community for its honesty in trade and business, and said they have set an example for others. “The concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam [the entire world is a family] gives a distinct identity to India from the rest of the world and the Bohra community is an example of it,” he added.

Modi praised the Ayushman Bharat scheme, saying it has worked as “Sanjeevani” [life-saving] for almost 50 crore poor people across India. “Trial of the scheme ensuring a free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh in a year is currently underway,” he said.
