Saudi Arabia-based Flynas on Thursday said it had received almost 1,000 applications from women co-pilots within 24 hours of its recruitment drive, AFP reported. The development comes amid Saudi Arabia’s attempts to relax restrictions on women.
The airline had announced its decision to hire Saudi Arabian flight attendants and co-pilots for the first time. “Flynas is keen to empower Saudi women to play an important role in the kingdom’s transformation,” the airline said on Wednesday. “Women are an essential part of the airline’s success.”
Flynas’ recruitment drive comes days after low-cost Saudi airline Flyadeal started posting vacancies for female flight attendants.
On June 24, woman were legally allowed to drive as part of the Islamic kingdom’s move towards increasing women’s participation in the workforce.
