A man committed suicide after two men allegedly raped his minor girlfriend in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district on September 1, PTI reported on Friday. The police arrested the two men after the girl lodged a complaint on Wednesday.
Korba Superintendent of Police Mayank Shrivasatva said the girl told them about the incident 12 days after the crime, the Hindustan Times reported. She alleged that Ishwar Das and Khem Kanwar accosted her boyfriend Sawan Sai and her when they saw them together at an isolated spot in Bhelwatikra, The Times of India reported. The accused allegedly beat Sai up until he was unconscious before they raped her.
Shrivastava said the accused and the girl are from the same village. “Sai committed suicide possibly because of guilt,” he added.
The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
